The Demon family (JP: デーもん類) consists of large, one-eyed monsters with large horns, introduced in What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? and the first runeborn family introduced. They are marked by their ability to increase a dungeon's defensive stats by existing, or in No Heroes Allowed! VR, their Sleep Sphere ability.

Demons are spawned in the first or fourth layers of the dungeon, such as Wookiemon, using their respective runes. They boost the Defence (Wookiemon and [[Idle Wookiemon) or Magic Resistance (Diabro and Brahzuzu) of all monsters in the dungeon, making them essential for trading hits with heroes. Like all runeborn monsters, Demons do not get along with other members of their family and will fight to the death, requiring careful placement should different types be used. Demons eat Spirits, Corpses, Dragon Orbs, and more, the latter of which can make them somewhat of a nuisance at times.

Demons tend to have mediocre attack power and sleep when they have high HP, making them poor in combat and easy targets for all but the weakest of heroes. Thus, it's recommended to place Demons deeper into the dungeon, where they are not as easily targeted by heroes. Once a Demon has eaten, it will stop moving and fall asleep; when this happens, it will only wake up when attacked, and by then, it's likely been killed by the hero. Thus, in the event a Demon is required for combat, it should be poked with the pickaxe to become active again. Otherwise, though, it's of little concern.

Yu-Nama: The Puzzle and related

Wookiemon as it appears in Yu-Nama: The Puzzle.

In Yu-Nama: The Puzzle, Wookiemon is the only present demon, appearing on stages 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, and 10, in parallel with the Golem. It's a Level 4 azure block, meaning it's only obtainable through evolution. When combined, they produce Level 5 purple tiles, which features the Dragon, and in later titles, Dragon family members in general.

In No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either!, Demons were kept as Level 4 azure monsters. However, out of the azure monsters available, they are painfully mediocre, with Brahzuzu having Attack equivalent to the Crystal King, among the weakest of the group. Demons are therefore outclassed by the Golem family out of the common monsters available, and the Supremanoid has the highest Attack out of all Level 4 azure monsters, making it strictly optimal over any of them.

In Yūsha no Kuse ni Konamaiki da DASH!, Demons were among all runeborn monsters to receive sidegrade breeds, including Baru, Kijo, and Imp for Basic Breeds, and Flying Eye as a Rare Breed.

In No Heroes Allowed! VR

Official artwork of the Idle Wookiemon.

Instead of raising the defensive stats of Badman's army, Demons in No Heroes Allowed! VR have an ability called Sleep Sphere, which they use to attack heroes and put them to sleep for a while. Because of this, they excel at supportive roles, and the sleep inflicted is often enough for other monsters to finish the afflicted hero off. When full, they will fall asleep.

Trivia

  • Maras used to be part of the Demon family, which can be seen in their older "pink Wookiemon" design in What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!?. In What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2, they received a visual overhaul, being changed into blue monsters with different horns that eat using transforming arms. Alongside the introduction of other runeborn monsters, like Golems, this signified a growing difference as a whole. Unlike other Demons, they remained summonable in any dungeon layer, were changed to eat different monsters, and no longer passively boost any stats. However, they remained aggressive towards any Demon family member. No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either! gave them their own family designation.
