Evolution
Not to be confused with mutation, the equivalent feature in What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? and related titles. For the concept seen in the Dragon family, see regeneration.
Evolution (JP: 進化) is the process of levelling up blocks in Yu-Nama: The Puzzle and its related titles.
Overview
In the dungeon, only Level 0 through 3 blocks will appear. By combining blocks, for each line made, one or more of the block of the next level will be left behind. For example, 3 Level 1 Slimemoss blocks can leave behind a Level 2 Omnom. However, if arranged in more elaborate shapes, more of the next level's block can spawn. To deal sufficient damage, it's almost mandatory to exploit evolution and integrate it into a combo.
Evolution is the only way to obtain Level 4 and 5 blocks, those containing special monsters like Humanoids and the Dragon family respectively. Therefore, evolution is required to utilise the Dragon's ability to remove blocking blocks.
