The Dragon family (JP: ドラゴン類) is a group of winged, fire-breathing, reptilian monsters, based on the traditional European (and later East Asian) interpretations of dragons.

What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? and related

Dragons spawn from level 3 mana blocks. They are at the top of the food chain, eating virtually anything in the dungeon. All Dragons are equipped with a fire breath attack and melee attack, making them versatile fighters that can duel heroes from long- and short-range, as well as target either defensive stat. This, coupled with massive defensive stats themselves and high attacking stats, make them among the strongest minions in the game. Tried-and-true playthroughs centred around summoning the Shin Dragon are a common way of clearing the series quickly.

However, the movement of the Dragon is limited to going left or right, severely limiting where they can attack. Furthermore, this leaves them vulnerable to vertical attacks, meaning that heroes can attack them completely uncontested and even defeat them without sustaining any damage. Worse still, they can take a while to actually position themselves due to how slow they are, and a hero may move to the left to continue attacking uncontested. Therefore, a dragon's movement is a serious liability to consider when spawning one over a runeborn monster instead. Careful dungeon management is necessary to be successful with them; long corridors that limit—or ideally, eliminate—situations where the dragon can be attacked vertically, or alternatively, continually spawning and culling mana-filled dragons to create large rooms with dragons on every level are ideal.

What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2 addresses the weaknesses of traditional Dragons by introducing the Long Dragon, Hell Dragon, and Hydra, which can move the head in all cardinal directions and stretch around the dungeon. However, they are still vulnerable to attacks around the body, and tend to open their assaults with slow fireball attacks.

Regeneration

For the concepts seen in the puzzle games, see Monster Mixing and evolution. For the concept used with other monster families, see mutation.

Regeneration is a phenomenon exclusive to the Dragon family, giving them significant longevity compared to other monsters. When a Dragon's HP drops below a certain point, often around 2/3, they will perish, turning into eggs. This contrasts with mutation, a concept used with other monster families.

When a Dragon regenerates, most of its mana will be dispersed among the dungeon, while a chunk will be stored in its new egg. Mana can be accumulated through either consuming many mana-rich monsters or, more conventionally, by continually killing heroes, wherein all of their mana is absorbed. If a Dragon has above 75 mana at the point of death, it will regenerate into its next stage, while if it's too low, the Dragon will degenerate into its previous one. Otherwise, it will remain the same, but have depleted mana; in-context, without mana consumption, a Dragon will usually begin degenerating after two or three regenerations. Degeneration is essential for obtaining the Long Dragon, which can only be obtained by first getting a Dvagon, and then feeding it with 75+ mana.

Long Dragons can also regenerate, but when leaving behind their respective eggs, their heads are used as the given position, allowing them to be "moved" around a dungeon with precise culling. In the case of the Hydra, the middle head is used.

Pure Dragons uniquely cannot regenerate, much like how other Pure Breeds cannot reproduce.

The following table summarises the regeneration routes for all Dragons;

Yu-Nama: The Puzzle and related

Dragons are the sole Level 5 purple monsters available in the puzzle games, and are among the most potent. They do not drop into the puzzle table naturally, only being brought in through linking Level 4 azure monsters. However, when linked, dragons will remove all non-monster tiles, including blocking blocks and level 0 soil, allowing for massive combos thereafter. Thus, keeping a dragon ready to be linked at any point is a common way of safely and quickly defeating heroes.

In No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either!, the Hydra has the highest Attack, and because there are no abilities among dragons, it is strictly optimal to use it. Additionally, evolution between regular dragons was reworked; instead of diverting into either the Shadow Dragon or Shin Dragon depending on nutrient levels, the former now directly evolves into the latter.

Yūsha no Kuse ni Konamaiki da DASH! introduces Abnormal, Giant, and Rare Breeds of Dragons, giving the Dragon family significant diversity that it previously never experienced.

In No Heroes Allowed! VR

Dragons are reworked in No Heroes Allowed! VR to fit its Real-Time Strategy (RTS) gameplay, abandoning the left-right locked system and taking on a more conventional role.

Instead of outright starting with Nests like other monsters, Dragons begin in their Eggs, and hatch shortly after as babies. They then roam the board, eating everything in sight, before eventually growing into adults. As adults, they will fly around the map, breathing fire on heroes and their structures; however, they cannot be sucked into the N.E.Z, unlike their baby forms. They will eventually roost where they were born. However, they do not actively respond to Demonic Charges.
