What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2 and related

Rare Breeds are monsters who have fulfilled a specific set of conditions prior to mutation. They vary drastically by species and often result in significant deviations from their respective family. For example, Beryllions, the Rare Breed for Spirits, will kamikaze against opposing heroes. Rare Breeds cannot mutate into the next stage on their own and have to be upgraded with Dig Power. Dragons do not have Rare Breeds in the traditional sense, but do have special forms in the Long Dragon family.

True to the name, due to the circumstances in which they appear, Rare Breeds don't come up in a playthrough often; this especially applies to Frill Lizards and Lesser Liliths, which specifically require enough bait traps from Monster Hunters to be laid to give a reasonable chance of spawning. On the other hand, despite the difficulty in spawning them, some Rare Breeds are quite powerful and can be a significant boost to Badman's army.

Conditions for Rare Breed mutation

Monster family Initial monster Condition Unique trait
Moss family Sticky Amoeba + Putrid Flower Have a significantly higher ratio of Lizardmen and Omnoms compared to Slimemosses. Flower phase of growth becomes a stronger monster rather than being a vulnerable Slimeblossom.
Insect family Buzzy Boozy In the second game, have a Pure Omnom be spawned after three others are; in other words, fail to mutate three times. In No Heroes Allowed!, have an Omnom try to mutate into the same breed. Camouflagues with the terrain when threatened, can fly throughout the dungeon to boost speed.
Lizardman family Frill Lizard Eat Yummy Jerky or Tasty Meat and perish during the mutation process. Can stun oncoming heroes in cardinal directions.
Spirit family Beryllion Have 200 or more Spirits in a dungeon. Self-destructs to attack heroes.
Lilith family Lesser Lilith Eat Yummy Jerky or Tasty Meat and perish during the mutation process. Encases itself in a protective cocoon when full to conserve HP; tap with a pickaxe to release them.

No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either! and related

In No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either!, Rare Breeds have the nutritious ability, which makes them more likely to spawn with evolutionary nutrition. If the block is poked, monster-nurturing nutrition will be distributed in a set direction, upgrading all blocks around the tile.
