The Monster Hunter (JP: 魔物ハンター) is a hero occupation, introduced in What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2. They wear robes and large hats, wielding knives as their weapons of choice. They typically have lore satirising common rogue tropes, such as the lovable rogue, gentleman thief, or gambling addict.

Gameplay

Maxwell, a commonly recurring Monster Hunter, as is seen in Yu-Nama: The Puzzle.

In gameplay, Monster Hunters will set traps for Badman's monsters, which can quickly turn the tide of a confrontation if left unattended. Outboxes will absorb monsters before becoming a Charming Chest, Barrel Bombs will deal significant damage to nearby monsters, and Tasty Meat and Yummy Jerky will either restore vitality or outright kill a monster. Some can also change into a Disguise that can only be discerned by monsters of the same type; specifically, they can disguise themselves as Liliths, Lizardmen, or even Badman himself. Ergo, Monster Hunters are very capable multitaskers and can kill a significant amount of Badman's army quickly. However, an attentive God of Destruction that keeps track of the hero can quickly hit these traps with their Pickaxe and destroy them, rendering them much less effective.

The People's Pick is a notable counter to Monster Hunters, as Dungeonquake can not only destroy their traps, but force them out of their disguises too. This can make them much easier to fight for inexperienced players that have issues with maintaining Lizardmen and Liliths, as disguises can sometimes end a run on the spot.

Monster Hunters are one of few ways to access Lesser Liliths and Frill Lizards, which are Rare Breeds only obtained by having a large amount of their respective monster type die due to Tasty Meat or Yummy Jerky.

Monster Hunters are one of few heroes to not place Torches. This trait is shared with Shamans and Martial Artists.
