What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? and related

Golems feed on members of the Lizardman family and are aggressive towards other members of the Golem family. When poked with the God of Destruction's Pickaxe, in No Heroes Allowed! onwards, they will roar and increase the Attack of all monsters in the dungeon by 5%. If purified with holy water, a Golem will become a Harmunculus.

  • Food: All Lizardmen
  • Dislikes: All Other Golem Types
  • Ability: Roar (Strengthens All Monsters' ATK)

If you draw a rune in the deep, rocky layers underground, this monster comes out. One Golem stereotype is that they only exist to guard treasure chests, but there are no guarantees you'll find one near a Golem. His roar raises the morale of all monsters. The reason Golems eat Lizards is because salamanders were used in the ritual that created the first Golem prototype. Oh, Golems will kill each other.

  • Diet: Lizardmen

  • Special Abilities: Roar (Increases All Monsters' Physical Attacks)

Enormous earth-based guardians who are so excitable that they run amicably up to any hero who comes near, only to do more damage than good. If a God of Destruction is cruel enough to poke one with his pick, it will let out a deafening Roar, which, if you're lucky, will increase all your monsters' attack. Okay, it definitely will increase their attack. We were just trying to make it sound more of a gamble...

Etymology

The Golem (Hebrew: גּוֹלֶם) is an automaton from Jewish folklore that is featured in the Hebrew Bible. In the Talmud, it is stated that Adam was first created as a Golem before becoming a human; all Golems are made from mud by those close to divinity, but are never fully human. Golems are activated by writing אמת (truth) on their foreheads, and are deactivated and turned to dust by removing the aleph, thus spelling מת (death). When active, Golems act as servile beings that defend Jews, but will turn on them and retaliate if overworked and/or angered, such as in the Golem of Prague narrative, giving them a theme of hubris.

Trivia

  • The Golem's description on the official website for Yūsha no Kuse ni Konamaiki da DASH! refers to the Yutori Generation, which describes Japanese students born between 1987 and 1996. This refers to an educational policy known as "Yutori", which aimed to reduce the severe pressure and overwork that befell previous generations of schoolchildren. In 2016, the mass media blamed this education policy for a decrease in Japanese student's scholastic abilities, becoming a point of political contention among conservatives.
