Shota

Shota (JP: しょうた) is a hero from What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? and the first to do battle against the God of Destruction and Badman's army. He is a Swordsman with blue armor that appears three times in the Story. He also appears in What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2 in the Downloaded Story, My Name is Shota, which gives more elaboration on his background.
Shota appears three times as a common hero in No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either!, with each appearance representing his progression in What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!?. His appearances in the DLC Story "My Name is Shota" are not referenced in any way.
Story
Shota is the first hero to do battle with Badman, appearing on the first stage of What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!?, on his 15th birthday. Despite having not finished his Class-A Legendary Hero exam, unable to resist the temptation, he enters Badman's dungeon with nothing but a Copper Sword he bought off eSlay. He perishes almost instantly, forgetting to equip armour.
Too ashamed to return home in fear of being slapped, on Stage 3, Shota finds an ally in Sukisuki while hiding behind a well. Buying a new sword and some armour with the money he forgot to withdraw before, he entered the dungeon, Sukisuki in tow. Perishing once again, he later changed his job, becoming a Warrior that appears as the "Everlasting Rookie" in Stage 7; referred to as "Life-Long Rookie" in No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either!. With Sukisuki revived and having recruited Natalie, he stormed the dungeon once more, calling himself "Super Shota". In spite of his new allies, job, and buffed out stats, he still failed to defeat Badman.
In My Name is Shota, Shota retells this story with notable deviations: He mentions recruiting Chimli and looting his corpse for his Warrior gear, becoming an Alchemist, crediting himself for Sukisuki's revival, and having a final showdown with Badman after her and Natalie perish. He also implies that Shoya, Showta, and Shouta are him, but split into three copies in a dream.
Personality
Unlike many heroes in the series, through repeated appearances and character interactions, Shota has a fleshed out character and personality. He is an only child who lost his father, with the weight of this giving him a desire for revenge against Badman. He is notably afraid of his mother, who assaults him if he fails. On the bright side, Shota is also well-liked by his peers, albeit implicitly for nefarious reasons, with characters around him often exploiting him for money or lust, of which Shota himself is unaware of. It's notable that these people are often, ironically, brought down by Shota's irresponsibility; he didn't revive Sukisuki when given the option, and he quit his job after getting advance pay.
Shota is shown to be confident and excitable, rushing headlong into trouble before he realises how underprepared he is. Despite this naivety, he does learn from his mistakes, often making immediate changes. However, these are often all he thinks he needs, boosting his ego, which causes him to be trapped in a loop of self-sabotage. His confidence is, invariably, his downfall; in My Name is Shota it's stated that the cost to revive him eventually got so high that Sukisuki had to sell his armour. Additionally, despite initially aiming to avenge his father, who was presumably killed by Badman, this motivation seemingly disappears in Shota as time goes on, with him often talking about wanting to be rich and famous instead.

Etymology
In the English version, Shota's name, background, and quotes appear to be based on the Shotacon genre of manga and anime, which consists of putting young-looking (or outright young) boys in erotic situations. Shota's Stage 1 title, "Fresh Meat", may be a reference to the quote from the Butcher, the first boss from the game Diablo.
In the Japanese version, Shota's name is derived from "Shorter" (ショーター Shōtā), a reference to his "short" (low) position as the first hero.[1] The beginning of Shota's Almanac entry, "in the morning of his 15th birthday", may be a reference to Dragon Quest III, where the protagonist started his quest in the morning of his 16th birthday. His bio from Stage 3 makes a reference to the Miracle Sword, a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest series. His introduction quotes in Stages 3 and 7 appear to be references to two of Vegeta's lines from the Dragon Ball series: "I am an elite!" and "I am Super Vegeta."
