It was initially released in Japan on 22nd January 2009. With an applicable save file, it can be accessed via the special "Area 9: Downloaded Story" at any point in the game. It costs £1.69 GBP and requires 2.4 MB to download, taking 320 KB on a Memory Stick Duo. In its western release, it was released first, followed by A Day Without A Badman.

Blurb

Face off against Shota, the original main hero, as you get a glimpse of his side of the story. These new levels are narrated by the tragically unskilled and adventurous life of those who answer the call to action.

Gameplay

The first few stages in My Name is Shota have a time limit during both the preparation and invasion phases. Therefore, on those stages, the player is encouraged to let Shota in early to kill him as quickly as possible, while not making a dungeon that's too deep. The main theme from What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? will play during the preparation and invasion phases, though it returns to the usual music when Badman is being dragged away.

Story

My Name is Shota re-enacts Shota's side of the story from What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!?, with him talking instead of Badman, giving some worldbuilding from the hero's side. If the player is defeated, Shota will exclaim his victory with a "what if" ending.

On the day he first fights Badman, it was his 15th birthday. He was going to take the exam for a Class-A Legendary Hero Licence, which he heard about from an article in Netherworld Monthly Magazine. Unable to resist the temptation, he entered Badman's dungeon with a Copper Sword he bought off eSlay to try and beat him. He realises he lost because he didn't equip certain items; he was so excited about his ATK that he forgot to get better armour.

Fixing his mistakes and withdrawing money he deposited, he bought better gear, got to grinding, and tried again. After dying within a minute and a half, he hurriedly hit behind a well, embarrassed and afraid of his mum slapping him. There, he met Sukisuki. Still scared of his mum, he restored his HP to head back to the dungeon for another attempt, with Sukisuki in tow, this time with a Broad Sword and new armour. He lost once again, overwhelmed by Badman's forces.

Shota reveals that instead of a birthday gift, he asked his mum to set money aside to revive him when he dies. He says he had a weird dream where he split into three men and entered a dungeon, where it turns out to be Shoya, Shouta, and Shota from What Did I Not Do to Deserve This, My Lord!?. After losing in the dream, he woke up to his mum's slaps and a butt drop to the stomach. His mum exclaimed that the revival costs were so high that she had to sell all his equipment. Realising he had to make changes in his life, he decided to bleach his hair and go the path of an Alchemist. Unable to afford to revive Sukisuki either, he deleted her off his friend list and went without her. He met Chimli at a bar, who joined his party in her stead.

After losing, he realised he didn't know how old Chimli was: when he levelled up, his abilities went down. He reveals he saved his data in 3 slots, even having a backup on a second memory stick. He realised he didn't have any healing magic access, which was a part of why he lost. Looting Chimli's armour, he decided to become a Warrior, changing it to blue with the colour editor. Selling his Summon scroll from being an Alchemist, he used the money to revive Sukisuki, and was joined by Natalie. Calling himself "His Highness, Super Shota", he went back to the dungeon.

Losing once again, Shota lost everything. Without the money to revive his friends anymore, he left the corpses of Sukisuki and Natalie at the inn and ran around the field to train for 30 hours. Purple in the face and with maxed out levels—denoted as LevelShotaLevel.png—he went to fight Badman for one last time. Despite reading the strategy guide, finding every item, and becoming as strong as he could possibly be, he crumbled under the might of Badman's army. Still wanting to become rich and famous for bringing down the great Overlord Badman, he wondered what went wrong, wishing he put more points into INT. Resolving to sell all his armour to help fund the revival of Sukisuki, Chimli, and Natalie, to discuss their next action, and whether to try and fight Badman again. Until then, though, he chose to consider a different career path. With that he leaves, much to the anger of Badman, who criticises him for his selfish monologuing.
