Badman, a Diabolos.

Diabolos (JP: 魔族, mazoku) is the species name for Badman and Badmella's race, a group of devil-human-like monsters with palid, white skin, and red eyes. It's continually referred to throughout the series, albeit only through Badman and his family lineage.

Overview

Badman identifying "ancient Underworldese" in No Heroes Allowed!.

The Diabolos are the dominant race of the netherworld, possessing great wealth and power over the realm. They have palid, white skin, red eyes, and a skinny, humanoid structure. They typically have power-hungry, violent personalities, seeking to take land and conquer the surface-world. They have access to human concepts, such as the internet, with Badmella frequently using her mobile phone and talking in human "textspeak".

In No Heroes Allowed! VR's trailer[1], it's implied that the language they usually speak isn't necessarily the user's tongue, with their babbling from the PSP and PS Vita titles being subtitled. Given the ancient Underworldese mentioned in No Heroes Allowed!, this could be dubbed "Underworldese".

It's implied in No Heroes Allowed! and Yu-Nama: The Puzzle that Diabolos have ruled over the netherworld for some time, with Badman showing contraptions his ancestors had put in place long before he was born. Their longevity is also shown through an ancient Underworldese text being written by the first Overlord in the former's case. However, while Diabolos have a reputation and significant influence over the netherworld, this doesn't necessarily mean they are always feared, with Badmella often being laughed at by inhabitants who don't take her seriously.

Abilities

Diabolos have untold amounts of magic power, with Badmella notably having among the highest Magic stats in What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2's NO MORE CHRISTMAS!, while also being capable of using blue Volcano. This is expanded upon in No Heroes Allowed!, where Badman uses his power to imprint his visage into a mountain, cover the world in fauna, and more. A given Diabolos can also form a bond with a God of Destruction at the cost of most of their magic power, of whom they can speak Japanese (or whatever language is necessary) to relay their demands.

As shown in A Day Without A Badman, Diabolos are capable of cursing individuals, with Badmella using them to afflict the God of Destruction with minor inconveniences. Furthermore, in NO MORE CHRISTMAS!, it's shown that an unencumbered Diabolos has abilities largely akin to a normal hero, albeit with much higher stats and magical fortitude than usual; Badmella, a child, is shown to be in league with AAA and Heroman. This is also among the only occasions where a Diabolos is shown to have any physical attacking aptitude, with Badmella beating monsters over the head with her staff. Outside of this case, Badman has been shown throwing the King out of his castle in pools of blood.

However, Diabolos are shown to have limits, not capable of raising a demonic army without the help of a God of Destruction, and not capable of conquering the world on their own. However, in summoning a God of Destruction, they lose tremendous amounts of magic power and stamina, making them extremely easy to defeat. Additionally, while they can survive bomb strikes and other attacks, they are still capable of being hung while in this weakened state, and thus capable of dying. Additionally, they can be afflicted with life-threatening illnesses, as seen in Less Than Meets the Eye.

Notable Diabolos

Etymology

Diabolos is the Latin accusative plural of diabolus, meaning devil, which ultimately derives from the Greek word διάβολος (diábolos).
