Netherworld Exterminator Zupreme
The Netherworld Exterminator Zupreme—or N.E.Z for short—is the God of Destruction's controller in No Heroes Allowed! VR, acting as a manifestation of the PlayStation 4 controller. It supersedes the pickaxe's functionality in previous titles.
Features
The Netherworld Exterminator Zupreme keeps track of absorbed Charisma, lets the God of Destruction purchase Nests, can suck up and place objects on the game board, and fuse monsters to spawn the Runeborn and Mimic family members. It also allows for the use of G.O.D Skills, which the controller also keeps track of. This culminates to form the gameplay of No Heroes Allowed! VR. Where objects can be sucked up and placed is signified by the purple, conquered Netherworld territory, and a pointer coming from the Netherworld Exterminator Zupreme gives the precise position.
Development
The Netherworld Exterminator Zupreme originally had a very different design, looking much more similar to the PlayStation 4 controller. It was less stylised, had a white colouration, and a dial implying the day-night cycle was going to take a more active role. Finally, the cursor showing where things could be sucked up and placed was black, looking more like a retro controller wire.
The day-night cycle's role is implied in some Monsterpedia entries, particularly around the Golem family, which were said to have different abilities if spawned at night, but the feature was removed because it may have been too annoying.
Etymology
In Japanese, the Netherworld Exterminator Zupreme is called the "God of Destruction Controller", or "Kamikon" for short. This is a portmanteau of "Kami", the Japanese word for "God", and "Famicon", the Japanese equivalent to the Nintendo Entertainment System. Netherworld Exterminator Zupreme is, therefore, a clever localisation of this pun, using the same equivalent game console from 30 years ago.
