Motivation is a stat that applies to heroes.

Motivation determines how likely hero is to use their skill. Every hero enters with a given amount of motivation, which is displayed by an arrow next to their HP and MP. Motivation gradually increases as a hero continues to exist in the dungeon, though some skills can increase it.
Most hero skills can only be used when motivation is high, notably Tornado and Rotary Cutter, which are often used when heroes are being pressured by multiple monsters at once. Because War Cry can only be used when motivation is low, Warriors will often enter the dungeon with it set to a low amount so it can be used immediately, which maximises their motivation and increases Attack power.
In What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2, the Lady family was introduced. Nutrient-based Ladies will slow down the rise of a hero's motivation, while mana-based Ladies will introduce a passive cap on their maximum motivation. These greatly reduce the chances of a hero using their skills during an invasion, making them far easier to take down. This is especially important in What Did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!? 2, where skills were massively buffed across the board and are usually at their most potent.
